Before using MyKULINE, you need to follow the application procedure described below. If you have forgotten your ID or Password for MyKULINE, see "FAQ about log-in" below.

"Borrowing history" service is available to you. To apply for this service, you will need to validate "Borrowing History" through the settings of MyKULINE. You can check your borrowing history during the period for which the setting is [on]. Borrowing history is not handed over in such cases.

You can read documents which are held in other campus locations remotely on a networked PC in your laboratory or OSL (Open Space Laboratory). There is a charge for using this service. This service is limited to people that can pay the charge for copying documents at public expense. The PC you use has to be connected to the university network.
Please be sure to observe Japanese copyright laws when using the service. - Only single copies of the documents may be made. - PDF files cannot be downloaded or saved to your PC. - Reproducing and distributing the documents is prohibited.
Please note that it is necessary that your affiliated library is a participating library in order for you to use this service. Please contact your affiliated library beforehand.
Costs vary according to which library holds the material. However, it usually costs 15-20 yen per page (both black and white, and color). Postage is free.
It is not necessary for you to come to the library to pay, as the cost will be covered by public expense (university funds). Please be sure to register your budget code in advance so that you can select it on MyKULINE. Registration can be processed at your affiliated library.
Please apply from "Copy request" at MyKULINE menu or ask the applying library (List of KU libraries) when a request window is not displayed after clicking "KU Article Linker" icon / found on search results of bibliographic databases or "Copy request" button on the screen of "Receive External Data(open URL)".
※Disabling pop-up blocker is no longer necessary. A screen come to open with the other window.(As of Aug. 2017)
It is possible that you can not apply for book reservation or ILL service, because the pop-up blocker on your PC browser prevent you from proceeding any further.
* The images in the example are of Internet Explorer 9. The positions of pop-up blocker on your screen most likely differ from the one in the example depending on your PC browser or its version. For further details, please see the browser Help.
It is necessary to use pop-up function when you apply for book reservation, ILL services, or new arrival alert from MyKULINE. Please disable pop-up blocker and accept pop-ups in your browser or on your PC by following the directions below. (The images in the explanation are of Internet Explorer 9.)
When temporarily allowing pop-ups in your browser:
Click "Temporarily Allow" in Notification bar of the popup blocker. (Click Notification bar and "Temporarily Allow Pop-ups" in some version of browsers.)
* In this case, the pop-up blocker will be enabled when you close the browser and launch the browser again. You need to repeat the same operation when you make reservations through MyKULINE or apply for something through ILL service.
When always allowing pop-ups in your browser:
Click "Option from This Site" in Notification bar of the popup blocker, then click "Always allow". (Click Notification bar and "Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site." in some version of browsers.)
* When the Pop-up Blocker is enabled but the Notification bar doesn't display, click "Tool", point to "Pop-up Block" and then click "Pop-up Blocker Settings". Type "*.kyoto-u.ac.jp" in the "Address of website to allow" box. After that, click "Add", and then "Close" to finish the setting menu.
* For Safari users, click on "Security" at the top of the window, and then leave the box "Block pop-up windows" unchecked.

Each bibliography on a search results list is enclosed by a grey line.
The following guides are for using the library and its resources for research and study, for example, how to use databases and how to search different materials. We have updated the contents of as well as increased the number of these guides.
While inputting a keyword on Basic Search at [KU Search] tab, the system instantly shows a list of titles whose names begin with the entered characters (The Suggest Function).
The searching KULINE will start when you select one of titles and click the Search button.
You can search for the book you need when you enter ISBN/ISSN on Basic Search at [KU Search] tab. You can also search KULINE by ISBN/ISSN nubmer on Advanced Search.
Enter the number in the ISBN/ISSN field and click the Search button.

Characters that can be used on a Japanese page include Kanji, Hiragana, Katakana, and alphanumeric characters. Both upper case and lower case alphabetic characters can be entered. Also, both em-size and en-size characters can be entered.
In the case of searching for materials written in Arabic characters, Devanagari characters, African languages, or Southeast Asian languages
Select the Advanced Search at [KU Search] tab and enter in the Title field the words included in the book title that you can remember.
If too many search results are generated, you can refine your search by Classification with the left side menu on the search results. In addition, you can refine by Material Type, Holding Library, Author, Publication Year, Subject, Publisher and Language.
Please click "Classification" below the search box on Basic Search at [KU Search] tab if you cannot find for the book you need. For example, if you are looking for books related to statistics, point your mouse at "4:National science > 41:Mathematics > 417:Probabilities. Mathematical statistics" and click "417".So, you can search for books in the category.
If multiple search values are entered for one search item (available on both Basic Search and Advanced Search)
Logical product (AND) search: A search of material simultaneously satisfying two or more search values is performed.
Entry method : Join each search value by “ ” (blank).
Example : Search for material containing both "Japan" and "USA" in the title
"Japan USA"
Logical sum (OR) search: A search of material satisfying at least of one of two or more search values is performed.
Entry method : Join each search value by “ + ” (plus sign).
Example : When searching materials that include either "Japan" or "USA" in the title
"Japan+USA"
Logical difference (NOT) search: A search of material, which satisfies some condition, but does not satisfy other conditions is performed.
Entry method : Join each search value by “ ^ ” (hat symbol).
Example : Search for material containing "Japan" and not containing "USA" in the title

If search values are entered for multiple search items (on Advanced Search)
Logical product (AND) search: A search of material satisfying simultaneously two or more items is performed.
Entry method : Simply enter search values in multiple items and choose "AND" from the pull-down menu between the items.
Example : Search for material containing "Japan" in the title and "Kyoto University" in the author's name.

Logical difference (NOT) search: A search of material, which satisfies some item, but does not satisfy other items is performed.
Entry method : Enter a search value to be excluded prefixed with “ ^ ” and choose "NOT" from the pull-down menu between the items.

Two types of search methods, the keyword search and the literal search, can be used.
In the keyword search, a search of material containing the entered search values as words (= keywords) is performed. In the literal search, a search of material containing the entered search values simply as characters (= literals) is performed.

Year of publication
Performs a search by specifying the year of publication.
Example 1) 2006 Material published in 2006 (Specify the 4-digit year). Example 2) 199* Material published in 1990s. Example 3) 1990-2000 Material published from 1990 to 2000 (Specify it by four digits at the Christian era).
Subject
Performs a search by specifying the words representing the subject of the material.
Example 1) Library information Material whose subject is "library information." Example 2) toshokan△joho Material containing "toshokan" and "joho" in the Japanese reading of the subject.
Classification
Performs a search by specifying the classification characteristic representing the subject of the material.
Example 1) 311 Material whose classification characteristic is 311. Example 2) 31* Material with a subject whose classification characteristic begins with 31.
ISBN/ISSN
Performs a search by specifying the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) or International Standard Serial Number (ISSN).
Example 1) 4881357611 Book material whose ISBN is 4-88135-761-1 (Enter the ISBN without any "-"[hyphen]) Example 2) 13407287 Serial material whose ISSN is 1340-6297 (Enter the ISSN without any "-"[hyphen]).
Code
Performs a search by specifying various code numbers or IDs. Select the code from the following code designations in the pull-down menu and specify the number in the right field to perform a search. ・NCID (NII bibliography record ID) ・LCCN (library of congress card number) ・NBN (national bibliography number) ・NDLCN (national diet library card number) ・NDLPN (national diet library periodicals number) ・FID (family ID) ・OTHN (other numbers)

Performs a search by specifying the country code. Click the [Code reference] button on the right of the input field to check the check box of the country of publication and click the [OK] button or directly enter the code value to perform a search.
